single sound: When You Were Made, by The Growlers
a ballad of lost love spreads across a warm Californian sunset
A life of love is a long time
The Growlers is a project from Orange County, California. It now comprises one of its founders, singer Brooks Nielsen, and Kyle Straka on keyboard and guitars.
When You Were Made is a song on City Club (2016), the seventh album from the band, published by Cult Records.
The song is a psychedelic ballad on two people who are “not in love anymore”.
It might be because they're afraid, stuck by worries. But Nielsen reassures, with her scratchy voice, that "a life of love is a long time".
And this happens because you have only one life, so you need to make the world "less cruel", and not get too down.
The song is a perfect hit for driving-at-sunset-after-you've-broken-up-and-still-feel-something, something strange that still hits you.
After all, we're in California, a cinematic representation of love never hurts. Especially with a bass line and electric guitar like that.
